Defender Dimitrios Goutas was part of a very stubborn defence in an unfortunate 2-0 loss to Middlesbrough on the 3rd of October.

Whilst Liam Palmer traveled to West Brom with Sheffield Wednesday, only to have endured a 1-0 loss and have picked up a yellow card in the process.

Jacob Chapman was not part of the Huddersfield squad that lost 4-1 away to Birmingham.

Middlesbrough 2-0 Cardiff

Bulut’s men went into the game with a solid defensive display - not having conceded a goal until the second half. Dimitrios Goutas, was at the heart of a backline employed by Cardiff boss Bulut, who has since overseen a strong start to the season in the EFL Championship.

Dimitrios later on picked up a yellow card in a slight rough play involving one of his tackles. Goutas was the catalyst for many great defensive actions which saw the ball avoid the back of the net numerous times.

The loss meant Cardiff further slip up and remain level on points with six other teams looking to establish themselves in a frantic top six.

Cardiff's Erol Bulut:

For both teams in the first half it was a tactical game. The second half we showed tiredness from the travelling from the last games, and also today we had to change a few positions because of injuries. This is not an excuse.

West Brom 1-0 Sheffield Wednesday

Liam Palmer was part of the team that went down 1-0 away in the Midlands, with an early John Swift strike being the sole goal of the match. Besides this, Liam and his partners in defence were very robust in keeping the chances of the game very much alive, unfortunately the Sheffield attack were not up for it.

A yellow card was shown to Liam Palmer during an attempt at a tackle going slightly wrong in the 66th minute of the game.

This loss proves fatal to Sheffield Wednesday as it means they are rooted even more so tightly to the rock bottom of a very competitive EFL Championship.

Sheffield Wednesday's Xisco Munoz:

I understand the fans and I can only say sorry because it's tough for everybody. But as a manager, I can say we will continue until my last second.

"This is my life and I try to give my best to my players until my last minute."

Birmingham City 4-1 Huddersfield Town

It was goals galore at the St Andrew's as Birmingham marched to one of the best wins of their season so far. Whilst Jacob Chapman was not part of the squad entirely, Huddersfield were disappointing at the back.

Two very late goals during the game made it all the more interesting, with Jordan James and Michael Helik both scoring in the 90th minutes.

What next?

Goutas’ Cardiff will welcome Watford to Wales on the 7th October in what seems like a competitive tie for both sides, a huge opportunity for both teams to pick up points. Whilst Palmer’s Sheffield Wednesday will remain to look for a lifeline against Jacob Chapman’s Huddersfield on the same day.
